Our friend, wedding and event planner Ginny Sukenik, wanted to share some information you should know about applying for a wedding license in Cleveland and Ohio.
“You must apply for a marriage license within the county of the state in which you are being married. Apply at the probate court located in the courthouse of the county in which you will be married. A blood test is not required in Ohio.
There is no longer a waiting period to receive your license in the state of Ohio, although it still would be wise to apply a few weeks early. Licenses are valid for sixty days. You will want extra copies of your license since you will need an original when reapplying for an updated social security card and driver’s license with your new married name.
You must apply in person and each county requires applicants to provide either/or both forms of identification: 1) a valid drivers license, and 2) social security number. All counties require you to be 18 yrs of age or you will need parental consent as well as a counseling certificate. If you are remarrying, bring a certified divorce decree or death certificate.
Requirements vary from county to county, so please call the Marriage License Dept. at your issuing county courthouse for fees and hours of operation.

How can someone who is here in Lorain, Ohio apply for a marriage licence when their partner is in the army in another state. The only day he has is the day of the Wedding and he was a resident in Lorain, Ohio. What can you do?
Brenda,
I asked around and heard two pieces of advice: 1) call the probate court and ask them, and 2) contact the USO.
Hope that helps!
The active duty person should talk to the JAG office where he is currently assigned. They can best advise him. I do know an army major that is active duty and an attorney, so if you need help, let me know. Another option would be still go ahead with your plans of ceremony and reception but find time that day to do the license thing. Very often couples have two wedding dates to remember. Example, catholic couples can only be married in a church, but if they want to have a ceremony on the beach, they will get married in the church prior to the wedding date and then go thru the motions with their other plans on the beach or wherever.
