“Jonathan Hooper is an up-and-coming jazz pianist and singer out of Cleveland. The combination of the variety of his piano styles plus his luscious singing makes Mr. Hooper a double-entertainment threat! This young man is going to turn a lot of heads!” —Dave Frank, Assoc. Professor of Piano, Berklee College of Music
Offering live jazz in solo, duo and trio configurations, Jonathan’s jazz technique is built on a foundation of 13 years of classical training (starting at age five) as well as classical vocal study. His love of listening to jazz and his talented ear allowed him to quickly master a variety of jazz piano concepts, drawing influence from greats such as Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Lennie Tristano, and others. He was recently featured as an up-and-coming jazz artist on Instagram’s Jazz Today, which currently has over 15,000 followers.
Jonathan performed for two years as a house pianist and vocalist at Rhett’s Piano Bar in St. Augustine, Florida. During his time living in this popular tourist destination, he also appeared at numerous other restaurants, lounges, and private events in North Florida and Georgia. For the past two years, Jonathan has studied via webcam with Dave Frank, one of New York City’s top jazz pianists and educators, author of Joy of Improv (Books One and Two), and former student of the legendary Lennie Tristano.
Jonathan has been performing with his trio “Hoop, Skip, n’ Scat” at Cleveland venues such as Society Lounge and Vosh. He’s also given recent solo concerts at Lakewood Public Library and Wadsworth Public Library, and he’s currently the pianist for Cleveland’s Prime Time Big Band.
In addition to jazz, Jonathan is well-versed in classical and sacred music, having played for countless wedding ceremonies, as well as leading music on a regular basis at his church. Whether you’re looking for ceremony music, solo cocktail piano, a small jazz ensemble with vocals, or a combination of these, Jonathan looks forward to providing tasteful musical entertainment for your venue or event.
